“Thank you to our dedicated lifeguards and all our aquatics and parks staff, as well as our public safety professionals from the Springfield Police Department and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, for your commitment to keeping our pools a safe and enjoyable environment for all,” Mayor Sarno stated. “Your efforts toward safety are deeply appreciated, and we could not offer our summer swim program without you. Thank you also to the many families who continue to utilize our recreational spaces with care and respect.”

During his visit, Mayor Sarno observed families enjoying the pool and splash pad under the sunny summer skies. He noted the positive feedback from parents and families who expressed their happiness that the pool is open again. However, he also acknowledged concerns about the behavior of a few individuals causing disruptions.

“A number of parents and families expressed how happy they are that the pool is back open,” Mayor Sarno said. “Many also expressed that the few individuals, juveniles, who have been perpetrating these criminal activities need to be held accountable, as do their parents. Many folks understand that lack of consequences will continue to embolden those few individuals that want to ruin a good thing for all.”

The Mayor’s visit underscores the importance of community collaboration in maintaining safe and enjoyable recreational spaces. The combined efforts of the aquatics staff, lifeguards, and law enforcement ensure that facilities like the Forest Park Pool remain a welcoming place for families throughout the summer.

For more information about Springfield’s aquatics programs and safety initiatives, residents are encouraged to visit the city’s official website or contact the Parks, Buildings, and Recreation Management department.
