Mass. (WWLP) – From the Berkshires to Hampden County, fireworks displays will light up the city this Fourth of July.

July 4 may bring ‘dangerous heat’ to these areas of US

This holiday the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services is urging the community to stay away from attempting their own show at home. In Massachusetts, the state prohibits the possession, use, and sale of fireworks. If caught it can result in a fine and confiscation. Less than 20 minutes away from Springfield, Phantom Fireworks in Connecticut is attracting people from nearby states where hand-held and ground-based sparklers are legal.

Abby Pevay, a firework user told 22News, “I feel like as long as you’re doing it safely and like you know like how to use them it should be fine. Like if you don’t know what you’re doing then you probably shouldn’t do it, but as long as you know the rules.”

In the last 5 years, Massachusetts has treated more than 200 people for firework-related injuries. Firefighters recommend leaving it to the professionals and enjoying a show like Star Spangled Springfield to be safe.
