SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– Tower Square Park in downtown Springfield was busy Friday with shoppers looking for the best and freshest local produce.

D&R Farms in Hampden was one of the vendors offering seasonal produce. The farm grows all year long and sells during the summer months at several farmers markets in the area throughout the week.

Chicopee’s Farmer’s Market returns with a new location!

“We just started getting our corn in and our blueberries, so that’s one of the newest things that is from the outdoors,” explained Diane Rollins from D&R Farms. “We have all our other vegetables in the greenhouses.”

Over the course of a year D&R Farms has over 100 different variety of fruits and vegetables along with poultry, eggs and baked goods. They, along with other farm vendors, honor many food assistance programs and donate extra food to local food pantries.

Looking ahead, farmers will begin harvesting brussel sprouts, green beans, peaches, and different types of squashes. It won’t be long before apples and pumpkins are ready for fall eating.
