SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A temporary closure will be in effect on the southbound side of the South End Bridge this weekend.

Northern flooding, rain to impact western Massachusetts

Drivers heading in the direction of Springfield from Agawam will be detoured to the Memorial Bridge to cross the Connecticut River. Resurfacing work will be completed overnight from this Friday beginning at 11 p.m. through Monday to 5 a.m.

During the closure, the following detours will be in place:

    • Route 5 southbound: traffic wanting to cross the Connecticut River will be detoured to the Memorial Bridge, where drivers can access I-91 from Hall of Fame Avenue in Springfield. Route 5 southbound will remain open south of the Memorial Bridge, so that traffic wanting to access Route 57 westbound can do so.
    • Route 57 eastbound: traffic will be directed northbound on Route 5 to follow the detour over the Memorial Bridge.
