SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The life and legacy of a local artist was celebrated through a team art project in the city of Springfield this weekend.

Common Wealth Murals continued the rollout of their big project, which is to add ten new murals throughout the city of Springfield. On Saturday, the organization hosted its Nelson Stevens Mural Community Paint Party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Stearns Square.

Community members were able to join the organization in recreating a mural titled ‘The Old, The Young, The Beautiful’, a piece originally created by Stevens.

22News had the opportunity to speak to the daughter of the late artist, Nadya Stevens, who also happens to be coordinating the project and spoke to us about what this upcoming mural means to her, “It feels incredible. My dad dedicated a lot of his life to creating art and inspiring pride in the residents of Springfield. When he passed away, none of us live forever, but this is a way to continue his legacy.”

She added that the piece is expected to be unveiled on September 21st.
