SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) – The Springfield Thunderbirds put on their second community caravan of the summer filled with local vendors, musicians, and face paint.

The proceeds of the summer caravan events will go towards a local non-profit organization. Today’s event raised funds for the Grey House in Springfield.

There is one more summer caravan being held on August 17th from 9 am to 1 pm at Amelia Park. The beneficiary for the upcoming event will go towards Rachel’s Table of Western Massachusetts.

“When there’s no games going on, it’s hard to stay connected. So this is just a way for us to see them (fans) during the off-season,” shared Todd McDonald, Vice President of Sales and Strategy for the Springfield Thunderbirds.

With just three months away from opening night at the MassMutual Center in Downtown Springfield, fans and players are gearing up for what is set to be the best season yet.

Matthew Peca told 22News there is nothing like the hockey community in Springfield, “Every games a lot of energy. Our fan base is very passionate, like I said they are loud. It’s just a great atmosphere all together and you kind of feel part of a family community here in Springfield.”

The Springfield Thunderbirds will kick off the opening night for the 2024-2025 regular season at the MassMutual Center on October 12th at 7:05 pm vs the Laval Rocket.
