SPRINGFIELD (MA) – The Sponsors of Mass Save will be going door to door in western Massachusetts to promote energy assessments for small businesses.

This year’s “Main Streets” initiative will reach 88 communities in the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires starting September 9th.

Bill Stack with Eversource explained why they chose to help small businesses, “They’re really integrated into the community, and it’s a great way for us to also assist with any type of community activity by providing services to the small businesses who are paying into the fund just like anybody else,” said Stack.

These energy assessments also help cut down on greenhouse gas emissions by using cleaner methods of heating and cooling. This can mean anything as small as plugging your door and window sill to switching entire appliances.

According to the U.S Small Business Association, there are around 700,000 small businesses in Massachusetts that employ 1.5 million people. One of those businesses in Agawam told 22News about the impact of programs like Main Streets.

“When you’re a small business, you don’t have the revenue that larger ones do. So, if they can help you that way, then you can give more to your community and give back more that way and it’s extremely helpful. All the little things are what make a big difference in the small community,” said Michelle Cory, founder of Boutique Med Spa.

You can sign up for a no-cost energy assessment by heading to Mass Save’s website .
