SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Dakin Humane Society is celebrating its 55th anniversary with a special “Dakin Day” event, offering discounted adoption fees for cats and kittens from July 30th through August 3.

In honor of the milestone, adoption fees for cats six months and older will be reduced to $55, and kitten adoption fees will be discounted by $55.

The adoption center will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day during the promotion. All cats and kittens available for adoption have undergone spay/neuter surgery, are microchipped, and have received age-appropriate vaccinations.

Dakin’s Executive Director, Meg Talbert, emphasized the significance of the anniversary. “Summer always means lots of animals who need rehoming,” she said. “Cats and kittens, especially, arrive in large numbers at Dakin, and we’re hoping that by reducing adoption fees we can help them find homes that much faster.”

The celebration of Dakin Day, originally proclaimed on August 1, 2019, by Mayor Domenic J. Sarno to honor the organization’s 50 years of service, continues this year to mark their continued impact on the community and animal welfare.

During the anniversary week, Dakin will also share stories of the animals that helped and those who support their mission. For those interested in adopting a pet, a continually updated listing of available pets can be found on Dakin’s website.
