SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Springfield Public Schools has confirmed the unexpected death of Glendale student athlete Amare Witham.

A statement sent by SPS to Glendale families and OzarksFirst expressed sympathy for the loss, saying, “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, teachers and all those who knew and loved him.”

Witham played basketball for the Falcons and scored 54 points in a single game in the 2023-2024 season. He also had multiple offers from D1 schools, including Missouri State University.

A team of crisis counselors will be onsite at Glendale High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to offer support to students and staff. If students need additional support, call the SPS Counseling Services team at 417-523-7565.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Amare’s family, which you can donate to here .
