SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-Tonight, the Ozarks Lunkers Arena Football Team and the Missouri & Kansas Make-A-Wish chapter are teaming up to send a local boy to Walt Disney World.

Caleb Scott, the General Manager of the Lunkers, said he’s grateful to help set the stage for Paul and his family.

“We got to meet him on Tuesday night here at the arena for practice, his whole family. He’s super cool,” Scott said. “It was a fun experience to get to run around and play with the team. He does not know what’s happening tonight.”

They originally told Paul that Disney was out of reach and that he could attend a professional football game instead but at halftime of tonight’s Lunkers home game, the seven-year-old will find out that he and his family will soon be traveling to Disney World.

The Make-A-Wish program was created to help give children with serious illnesses a chance to take their minds off the issue and promote emotional strength to fight.

Paul grew up in foster care before being adopted in 2017 and has been battling stage three kidney disease.  Scott said the surprise has been a long time coming.

“We’ve been working with them for the past couple months and have built this really cool partnership with them to be able to reveal a wish tonight,” Scott said. “It’s just very cool that something started out as a childhood game is now getting a chance to take a little seven-year-old to Disney World. Like that’s really cool.”

Paul’s family took a trip to Disney in 2017 before Paul was part of the family. His mom Julie said that he had been looking forward to making his own memories there one day and now that dream will come true.
