Sunday, July 20 Weather – Mild spell slowly fades this week

    Happy Sunday!

It’s the gift that keeps on giving – a break from the heat and humidity of summer. This September preview isn’t just a day or two break. We are talking a whole week off from hot weather. We’ve enjoyed highs in the upper 70s and low 80s since last Thursday, and today was the capper. For most areas highs were in the mid to upper 70s. Springfield’s high of 76° was the coolest high since June 9th.

We will continue to enjoy below-average temperatures for much of this week with a return to near-normal temperatures late next weekend.

A trough in the middle of the country is the main driver behind the mild temperatures. It’s also the driver behind the clouds and spotty showers. We’ll see more of this through Monday and Tuesday. No widespread, heavy rainfall is anticipated though.

Rain chances will fade with warmer temperatures by mid-week. A weak front dipping into the area will cause rain chances to perk up Thursday into Friday.

It looks like the Ozarks Empire Fair will open with a risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms, but the risk of rain should fade heading into the evening.

The pattern will take on a more “typical” feel by late weekend as a summer ridge tries to replace the trough that’s been delivering the mild pattern. This will lead to drier weather this coming weekend along highs near 90°.
