SPRINGFIELD–“Pressure is a privilege.” It’s a common refrain athletes use to trick their mind into handling the gravity of a potential milestone moment. And you can bet KOLR10’s Dan Lucy heard it uttered more than once during Sunday’s final round of the 35th annual Price Cutter Charity Championship.

Mark Goetz and Matt McCarty teed off the championship round tied for the lead at 19 under.
For McCarty, it was been there, didn’t do that.

“A week ago McCarty teed off the final round in Denver with the lead. But he fumbled the opportunity shooting a three over par round. Here in Springfield, he has a shot at redemption.”

McCarty attacked immediately, birdieing the first two holes to move in front at 21 under.

“This week is going to be different. Like I just ah, I felt a lot, I felt a lot better today.”

Joining the chase at the turn was Southern Methodist product Noah Goodwin.
The 24 year old birdied number 9 here, one of three straight to get to within one of McCarty.

“I was off to a great start this morning. I was rolling really, really good.”

But McCarty answers. The lefty from Scottsdale Arizona birdied eight to get to 23 under par.
Goodwin had his opportunities. On 11 he had this eagle chance, but just missed.

Then on 14, Goodwin missed his par putt, the bogey ended his chase.

Goodwin:”It got a little sloppy, but I was abIe to finish with a birdie. It was close all day. But I didn’t do what I needed to do. That’s about it.”

McCarty put the pedal to the metal, birdieing 12 and then running in another birdie putt on 14 to move him to 25 under par and in command.

McCarty:”I played that hole well this week. It was nice to, kind of hit my, have some comfortable shots coming in.”
On 18 McCarty could enjoy the moment. The 26-year old finished his round with a tap in par.
He wins the Price Cutter Charity Championship with a 25 under par 263.
McCarty has been there and now has done that. Winning a championship and getting redemption.

McCarty:”I’ve waited a lot more than seven days for redemption out here. To have that week. And then have it happen this quick. It honestly feels better then if I would have gotten it done last week.”
