Beat the summer heat and discover new interests at the Library. From a children’s dance party and a mystery quest for tweens to a garden tour and events focusing on photography and local volunteer opportunities, we’ve got something for everyone. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s coming up:
Celia's Sing-Along Dance Party
Celia's world-famous, one-woman show is a rockin', stompin', hollerin' good time. Wear your dancing shoes because Celia will rock your socks off! For preschool-grade 4.
Republic Branch: 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 22
Strafford Branch: 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 23
Library Station: 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the Frisco Room
Schweitzer Brentwood Branch: 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24
Library Center: Wednesday, 4 p.m. July 24, in the Story Hour Room
Literacy Volunteer Recruitment Event
Representatives from Ozarks Literacy Council, Reading Buddies and Pet Therapy of the Ozarks will discuss what they do and how adults age 18 and older can sign up to volunteer their time to help struggling readers improve their reading skills from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library.
Weller Community Garden Tour
All ages are invited to come along for a tour of the Weller Community Garden from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Weller Community Church, 1624 E. Blaine St. The garden started in 2015 as a partnership between the Springfield Community Gardens and Weller Community Church.
Scooby-Doo and the Library Caper
Help Mystery Incorporated as they embark on a thrilling quest to uncover clues and unravel the library's mystery from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Library Center Story Hour Room, for grades 4-8.
Photographing the National Parks
Photographers from the Southwest Missouri Camera Club will offer tips and advice for photographing the National Parks, learned from experience at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Schweitzer Brentwood Branch Library.
