Tuesday, July 23: Summer heat creep continues

    By Tom Schmidt,

Today marked our eighth straight day below 90°. At this stage, temperatures are running about over 2° below normal for July. If we keep that up, this will be the coolest July since 2014.

The general trend of highs below 90° will continue this week, but we’re going to be getting awfully close over the next couple of days.

Tonight looks quiet after a shot at spotty downpours through sunset. The risk for shower activity will tend to remain along and south of the interstate and should fade by late evening.

The summer heat creep continues into Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the upper 80s Wednesday and close to 90° Thursday. Rain chances will continue to trail off with most areas dry Wednesday and Thursday.

This will make for warm and quiet weather as we open the gates for the first day of the Ozarks Empire Fair.

Rain will likely become a factor for following days at the fair, at least for portions of the time.

The middle of the country will be sandwiched between summer ridges. A weak spot in the pattern over the middle of the country will make for a corridor of unsettled weather. A more organized pocket of storminess is expected to take shape out of this pattern, drifting north across the Ozarks Friday through Sunday. This won’t make for a washout any day, but it will help generate cloudier skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Currently, Saturday looks like the wettest day out of the stretch.

Next Monday may be the first day since July 16th with most areas hitting 90°. The pattern that follows looks hot and mostly quiet as the summer ridge sets up over the middle of the country. It definitely looks like a summer sizzler weather lows in the 70s and highs in the 90s each day.
