Wednesday, July 24: Summer heat forced to retreat again
By Jamie Warriner,

The summer heat creep continued today with temperatures very close to normal now (still a little on the low side). We’ll just about hit the mark Thursday before increasing clouds and rain chances beat back the heat for a few days.
For tonight, we can expect warm and humid weather. A pair of boundaries, one to the south and one to the north will lead to a small boost in rain chances Thursday with temperatures climbing close to 90° during the afternoon. Opening day of the Ozark Empire Fair will come with warm and humid weather. I can’t completely rule out a downpour, but most areas will remain dry.
A corridor of unsettled weather between the summer ridges will give birth to an organizing storm that will move through the region this weekend.
The storm will approach the area from the south on Friday. Look for increasing clouds by Friday afternoon with scattered showers and thunderstorms breaking out. Showers will fade Friday night, but a few will likely linger into Saturday morning. The core of the storm will move through Saturday. This will make for mainly cloudy skies and a good chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon. Lightning and locally heavy rainfall are possible, but the day doesn’t look like a complete washout.
The storm will continue to produce showers and a few thunderstorms Saturday night, but should move north and east of the area Sunday. This will lead to drier and warmer weather for the back end of the weekend.
Hotter weather will follow as a summer ridge tries to set up shop over the Southern Plains next week.
Monday will likely be the first day since July 16th with most areas hitting 90°. The pattern that follows looks even hotter, a summer sizzler with lows in the 70s and highs well into the 90s each day. I can’t rule out rain in this pattern though with a risk for storms to spill around the ridge into the region.
