Author David Sedaris will be coming to Springfield once again.

The best-selling author will perform a one-hour reading followed by a 20-minute audience Q&A at the Gillioz Theatre , 325 Park Central East, at 7 p.m. Oct. 25. Sedaris will sign books before and after the event.

Sedaris is known for his satirical and observant essays and short stories. He's written New York Times bestsellers including "Barrel Fever," "Me Talk Pretty One Day," "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim," "Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls" and "Calypso."

Proceeds from the event benefit The Springfield-Greene County Library Foundation.

Sedaris previously shared views on Springfield of the 2000s

Sedaris has previously performed in Springfield, but an October 2000 visit was the one immortalized in his 2017 book "Theft by Finding." The book is composed of his diary entries ranging from 1977 to 2002. A 2017 article outlined the entry .

"Springfield has got to be the most depressing city in the United States," Sedaris said, calling the Northside Kearney Street corridor "hideous" after driving along it from the Springfield airport to his hotel.

Despite the disparagement, Sedaris praised the town's hospitality, calling Walmart employees "incredibly friendly."

"It's a hideous place, but the people are really nice, even the customers," Sedaris wrote.
