The Springfield area won't have high school baseball teams representing it in Classes 1-4 state semifinals next week after both its quarterfinalists lost one-run games.

    Here's what happened:

    Oran 1, Norwood 0 — Class 1 quarterfinal

Oran's Rylan Mills hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth while pitcher Gabriel Dirnberger threw a complete-game two-hitter to end Norwood's season.

Norwood's season ended with its third district championship in the last four years and a complete turnaround from a 6-16 season a year ago.

    Licking 12, Forsyth 11 — Class 3 quarterfinal

A back-and-forth thriller ended with Licking walking off Forsyth in the bottom of the seventh to end the Panthers' season and advance to the state semifinals.

Forsyth rallied from an early 5-0 hole and took a four-run lead into the bottom of the sixth where Licking rallied to tie it up. Kale Cook broke the tie with two outs in the seventh on an RBI double to win the game.

Ayden Cleveringa led Forsyth by going 2 for 4 with six RBI, a run scored and a double.

Kentucky pitching signee Tristan Hunter, who threw 91 pitches in the Panthers' sectional win, did not throw on Thursday.
