    Chance of storms could dampen Springfield-area high school football, Labor Day weekend

    Stormy weather could put a damper on the start of football season for Ozarks high schools as well as Labor Day weekend plans.

    According to the National Weather Service , there's a high chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with a 40% to 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms for the area Friday evening.

    As for Saturday and Sunday, those with plans outdoors may be let down. Saturday has a 50% to 60% chance of rain and Sunday has a 15% to 30% chance of rain, with south central Missouri most likely to see that.

    Despite the chances for rain, no severe weather or flooding is expected.

    Springfield's annual Labor Day celebration should be able to go on as scheduled. Monday is predicted to be mostly sunny during the day with a highs up to 84 degrees and lows down to 62 degrees.
