    Vote now: Who was the Springfield area high school athlete of the week from Aug. 26-31?

    Voting is open for the Springfield News-Leader's first athlete of the week poll this season.

    The first poll is constructed of only Springfield area high school football players. Moving forward, all fall athletes participating in an MSHSAA event are eligible for the weekly vote. Submissions must be made via email to Wyatt Wheeler at wwheeler@news-leader.com each week by Saturday night.

    This week's vote will be open until Thursday at noon. You may vote as many times as you please and votes will only be taken on News-Leader.com.

    Note to high school football coaches: Statistics via Hudl are no longer publicly available. Please submit your stats to wwheeler@news-leader.com each week or to MaxPreps.

    Springfield area high school football Week 1 Player of the Week nominees

    Dylan Rebura, Nixa — Rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns in Nixa's win over Republic.

    Parker Elliott, Ozark — Recorded 9.5 tackles with two being for a loss and one sack in a win over Willard.

    Ryder Ross, Strafford — Rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Mountain View (Liberty).

    Ethan Weaver, Hillcrest — Threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Central.

    Cade Spiva, Neosho — Threw 338 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Glendale.

    Rex Deters, Clever — Threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Miller.

    Davin Thomas, Joplin — Caught six passes for 126 yards and a touchdown in a win over Kickapoo.

    Jordan Arthur, Houston — Scored two rushing touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Also three the game-winning touchdown pass on a trick play in overtime against Pierce City.

    Jackson Lucas, Webb City — Threw for 173 yards and three touchdowns in Webb City's win over Lebanon.

    Brady Carlton, Carthage — Contributed to three second-quarter touchdowns with two being runs and one being a 26-yard pass in a win over Waynesville.

    Jace Bolin, Reeds Spring — Rushed for 111 yards in Reeds Spring's win over Logan-Rogersville.
