The Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts is due for a new roof and $1 million worth of interior renovations are planned for Greenwood Laboratory School.

Those projects are on the agenda for the Wednesday meeting of Missouri State University's Board of Governors . It will start at 4 p.m. and take place over Zoom.

Putting a new roof on the performance hall is expected to cost up to $1.5 million.

The board will be asked to approve a $1.25 million proposal from Garland/DBS, Inc for the construction work involved.

This project includes replaces the existing roof with a modified bitumen built-up roofing system and a waterproofing layer with embedded gravel surfacing.

If approved, the work will be done by summer 2025. Nearly $1.2 million of the cost will come from the hall's operations fund and the rest will come from the operating maintenance and repair budget.

At Greenwood, which is located on the Missouri State campus, the plan is for Bales Construction Company to renovate classrooms, offices and hallways in the oldest part of the laboratory school.

Ron Snodgrass, director of Greenwood, said the interior work will provide a refresh in all the classrooms except in the elementary part.

Snodgrass, who has been at the school for a decade, described it as an interior facelift that will update learning spaces and make the building look more cohesive.

A multipurpose gymnasium, locker rooms, and science classrooms have been added in recent years.

"We're going to create a more consistent look throughout the building," Snodgrass told the News-Leader.

The work will include painting walls. Snodgrass said some of the floors, lighting, and ceilings are original to that part of the building, which dates to 1966.
