Syracuse, N.Y. -- A Utica man’s gun was confiscated at the Syracuse airport Tuesday when he tried to get on a plane with the loaded weapon, federal officials said. TSA officers intercepted the firearm after it was detected in the man’s traveler’s carry-on items at the checkpoint, according to the Transportation Security Administration. Utica woman stabbed, hospitalized early Saturday
UTICA — A Utica woman is accused of stabbing another woman multiple times, sending her to the hospital very early Saturday. Utica police said Janay Hymes, 28, got into a fight with another woman in the 1400 block of Whitesboro Street at about 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said Hymes pulled out an object and stabbed the other woman three times in the head and torso. The victim suffered non-life-threatening wounds and was taken by a private vehicle to Wynn Hospital.

SUNY Oneonta to help develop fire-safe battery technology
ALBANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Governor Kathy Hochul announced on Wednesday, July 24 that a local college will be helping develop new innovations in battery technology. SUNY Oneonta will be one of two places in New York State to receive funding from the United States Department of Energy (DOE) for a long-duration energy storage project using fire-safe battery technology. According to the governor’s office, the technology will be able to be used in urban and rural places and demonstrate a stable energy supply during periods of high demand and extreme weather conditions.
