Ilion's Duofold building suffers partial collapse
ILION — Public safety officials from Ilion were dispatched to the vacant Duofold complex at 7 Spruce St. last week for a possible building collapse. After the arrival of officials from Ilion’s fire and police departments, as well as the mayor’s office, at 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, it was determined that a partial collapse of the west-end structure of the complex had occurred. The structure, officials say, had collapsed and pulled away from the connected building, leaving the far west portion of the building still standing. Officials also noted that a debris field was spread across the entire south side of the building, with the largest pile of debris remaining in the vicinity of the collapse.

Former Colorado first baseman Todd Helton was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday in Cooperstown, New York. Helton is the first former Vols’ player to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The 2024 class included Jim Leyland, Joe Mauer and Adrian Beltre. Helton played baseball and football at the University of Tennessee before a career with the Rockies (1997-2013). He was the No. 8 overall selection by Colorado in the 1995 Major League Baseball draft. Helton’s career batting average was .316, while totaling 2,519 hits, 369 home runs, 1,406 RBIs and 1,401 runs....

Adrian Beltré, Joe Mauer, Todd Helton and Jim Leyland have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Beltré led this year’s class with 95.1% of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America vote in his first year on the ballot. Helton followed with 79.7% of the vote in his sixth year of eligibility and Mauer received 76.1% of the BBWAA vote in his first year. Leyland was elected by the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee.
