7-year-old boy killed in accidental shooting in Springfield Township

Springfield Township police say a child injured in an accidental shooting on Tuesday has died,

The 7-year-old boy was shot in a home in the 9700 block of Arvin Avenue in Springfield Township Tuesday afternoon. First responders were dispatched to the shooting at approximately 2:18 p.m., according to a press release issued Tuesday evening.

Police began providing life-saving measures to the victim, but the boy succumbed to his injuries and died.

There were other children and adults at the home at the time of the shooting, Springfield Township police Lt. Matt Wilcher told reporters earlier Tuesday.

The incident is being investigated as an accidental shooting and there was no information as to whether charges will be filed. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
