A recording of a 911 call from an incident Tuesday in Springfield Township indicates a young boy accidentally shot himself.

Springfield Township police responded to a home in the 9700 block of Arvin Avenue around 2:18 p.m. for a juvenile shot. A woman had called in the incident, which police said they are investigating as an accidental shooting. A recording of the call was obtained by The Enquirer through an open records request.

Seven-year-old Justice Jenkins died from a gunshot wound Tuesday , according to Hamilton County coroner records. He was pronounced dead on scene after first responders attempted life-saving measures, police said in a news release.

In the frantic, nearly six-minute phone call, the woman identified herself as Justice's great-grandmother. Voices of children and other adults could be heard in the background as the woman tried to answer the call-taker's questions amidst an apparent chaotic scene. After speaking with others in the room, she eventually told the dispatcher the boy had accidentally shot himself with a gun.

"Oh, my baby. Look at my baby," the woman said in distress. The dispatcher instructed her to perform CPR. The woman said she knew the procedure and would start to perform measures while the phone continued to run.

The dispatcher asked her how it happened and how he got the gun. The woman asked others in the room what happened. After the dispatcher asked her what the children in the background were saying, the woman said Justice had been playing with the gun.

"What was he doing with a handgun, anyway?" the caller asked others in the room. It is not clear if anyone responded. The call ended shortly after that when first responders arrived.

The Enquirer has requested more information from Springfield Township police, including an incident report and body-worn camera footage.
