In a frantic call to 911 , the great-grandmother of a 7-year-old Ohio boy who fatally shot himself while playing with a gun could be heard attempting to answer dispatchers' questions amid a chaotic scene.

The Springfield Township police reportedly responded to a call in the 9700 block of Arvin Avenue at approximately 2:18 p.m. after the call came in that the boy had been shot. The police are investigating it as an accidental shooting, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported, adding that the publication had obtained a recording of the phone call through an open records request.

"Oh, my baby. Look at my baby," the unidentified woman could be heard saying, distressed. The dispatcher then asked her if she could perform CPR and told her to do so on the boy, who was later identified as 7-year-old Justice Jenkins.

She began to do so as she set the phone down, seemingly on speaker. The dispatcher asked her how the child had obtained the gun and how the shooting went down, the outlet reported, and so she asked others in the room, seemingly unaware herself.

The dispatcher asked her what the screaming children in the background of the call were saying, and she told the dispatcher that Justice had allegedly been playing with the gun. "What was he doing with a handgun, anyway?" the caller could be heard asking others in the room, but it wasn't clear if anyone responded. The call ended shortly after when first responders reportedly arrived at the scene.

Justice was then pronounced dead from the self-inflicted gunshot wound. It wasn't immediately clear whether or not charges were being filed in the case, but the police said in a statement they weren't looking for suspects. Anyone with information, however, is being asked to contact the Springfield Township investigators at 513-729-1300.

It wasn't clear either how many children and adults were also in the home with the child. No bodycam footage from the police has yet been released, nor has an incident report, The Enquirer reported, adding that it had requested both.

Justice's cause of death was officially ruled a gunshot wound by the Hamilton County coroner, the publication reported, confirming that first responders pronounced him dead on the scene after attempting life-saving measures.

Springfield Township is located just 12 miles north of Cincinnati and has a population of nearly 36,000 people. Arvin Avenue, where the shooting occurred, is a residential street located in the southwestern portion of the township.
