AAUW program to focus on gender, women and politics
The McLean area branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will meet Sept. 15 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Center. The program’s topic, “Gender, Women and Politics: Where Are We Now,” will be addressed by Kathleen Chesnutt, program officer on the Gender, Women and Democracy team at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and MacKenzie Bills, who ran for the Iowa House of Representatives in 2022 and now works as a philanthropy adviser for the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Fatal Shooting of Lou Loni Jordan, 23, in Northwest
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Northwest. On Friday, August 23, 2024, at approximately 12:17 a.m., officers were in the area of the 700 block of Florida Avenue, Northwest when they heard the sound of gunshots. Once officers arrived on the scene, evidence of a shooting was located but no victim. A short time later, an adult female was located at an area hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
