Jury returns guilty verdict for Lincoln man charged in toddler’s death
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Lincoln man accused of killing a 22-month-old boy in 2023 has been found guilty. After nearly two weeks on trial, a jury returned a verdict in the case of 33-year-old Joshua Tackett on Tuesday. The jury found him guilty on two counts, committing child abuse intentionally causing death and distribution of a controlled substance near a school.
Valentine Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Monday Evening Fire
The Valentine Volunteer Fire Department spent about 90 minutes on scene for a fire that burned about 5 acres Monday night. The initial call came in at about 8:30pm for the report of a fire south of Allen Bridge on the Niobrara River east of Valentine. It is believed that lightning is likely to blame for the blaze.

Hunts Horse sentenced to 88+ years for Fonner Park murder, Kelly’s sentencing postponed
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — The man convicted of killing a horse trainer at a Fonner Park stable will spend at least eight decades in prison. Hall County District Court Judge Patrick Lee handed down the sentence for Logan Hunts Horse on Tuesday morning. Lee sentenced Hunts Horse to 64-94 years for his second-degree murder conviction and 24-40 years for his weapons violation. The terms will be served consecutively and add up to 88-134 years.

Customers will write their name and phone number on the back of their receipt and drop it off at the KVSH booth on Main Street. Customers can enter one receipt per Chamber business. Drawing will be held at 5:30 at the Hall Street block party. 9am-1pm First Annual Crazy Day Sidewalk Chalk Art competition. There is no cost to register. Registration includes a package of 5 pieces of chalk. Water soluble pastels and chalk are allowed. Winners of each category are judged by the public from 1pm-5pm. Nebraska’s Bryce Benhart named to Outland Trophy watch list
A Nebraska offensive lineman has been named to a postseason award watch list. Offensive tackle Bryce Benhart was selected for the 2024 Outland Trophy Award Watch List on Tuesday. The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best interior lineman in college football. This is the first time the senior has been named to an award list. Last season, he received All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media in 2023. Benhart is one of 75 players named to the preseason list, 13 of whom are from the Big Ten. Construction projects at North Fork Whitewater Park, 1st Street
Work began Tuesday along the north side of the shoreline of the North Fork Whitewater Park, from the 1st Street bridge to the railroad bridge. The river will remain open and visitors will still have full river access. However, you are asked to stay away from the construction zone. The work is expected to last for the rest of the week.
