(WWJ) Two people are dead after an overnight crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-94 in St. Clair County.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, a call came into dispatch at around 12:30 a.m. Monday about a Chevy Silverado pickup truck driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-94, from Fred Moore Highway.

Minutes later, another call came in reporting a crash in that area.

When deputies arrived on the scene they found the Silverado had crashed into a Chevy Cruze, and the pickup was fully engulfed in flames, the sheriff's office said.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.

The freeway was shut down following the crash, but has since reopened.

The names and ages of the people who died were not immediately released.

The sheriff's office said the investigation is ongoing.
