(CBS DETROIT) - The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Drug Task Force is alerting residents after it had its first seizure of desomorphine last week. Desomorphine, also known as "Krokodil" or "Crocodil," is a synthetically engineered, opioid-like drug that is about 10 times more powerful than morphine. The drug has this street name because the skin of long-time abusers of the drug starts to look green and scaly due to damaged blood vessels, thrombosis, and damaged soft tissues near injection sites, and it looks similar to crocodile skin. 2 Michigan men arrested after authorities seize drugs, firearms in St. Clair County busts
(CBS DETROIT) - Two Michigan men were arrested and charged after authorities seized drugs, guns and other items in two separate drug busts in St. Clair County, officials said. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office says the Drug Task Force conducted a search warrant in Algonac on Monday, June 3. During the search, authorities seized 10 grams of cocaine, 8.7 grams of fentanyl, 3.2 grams of crack cocaine, packaging material and a large amount of cash. Damon Harrell, 50, of Algonac, was charged with possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession with intent to deliver fentanyl and marinating a drug house, in connection with this drug bust. The Drug Task Force also executed a search warrant in Clyde Township on Tuesday, June 4. Authorities found psilocybin mushrooms, packaging materials, cash and 13 firearms, including AR15s and AK47s, along with ammunition. In this drug bust, Jeffry Armstrong, 40, of Clyde Township, was charged with possession with intent to deliver psilocybin mushrooms, four counts of felony firearm, three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and maintaining a drug house.

St. Clair County Community College will be hosting a Juneteenth celebration for a third year. The celebration, titled "A Taste of Heritage, Freedom, and Unity," will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on June 19 on the SC4 campus. Meth remains most common drug in St. Clair County
The St. Clair County Drug Task Force seized more than 2,300 grams of methamphetamine throughout 2023. That amount is a significant drop from a high point in 2021, when the task force seized more than 4,300 grams of the drug, but comes in the context of an increased use of other synthetic drugs, the use of which cannot be easily measured as Michigan State Police labs are overwhelmed with requests.
