Results of the 40th Avenue West corridor study were announced at a public meeting hosted by St. Louis County Public Works on Thursday June 27th. At the meeting recommendations were given for the reconstruction of a portion of 40th Avenue West in Duluth, from the railroad tracks near 9th Avenue down the hill to Grand Avenue, including the intersection of 40th Avenue West and Grand Avenue.

Governor travels to Cook, Biwabik to survey flooding
COOK/BIWABIK – Governor Tim Walz on Friday, June 21, traveled to the cities of Cook and Biwabik to survey damage caused by severe flooding. As southern and central Minnesota were expected to experience flood conditions in the coming days, Governor Walz has activated the State Emergency Operations Center to monitor conditions over the weekend. Parts of St. Louis County received seven to 10 inches of rain and parts of Carlton, Crow Wing, Lake and Itasca counties received two to six inches.
Minnesota road projects receive $40M from feds
Minnesota is getting $40 million in federal money for transportation projects in Worthington and St. Louis County. The funding, part of a $1.8 billion round of awards for 148 projects nationwide, includes $25 million for the Rice Lake Road Corridor Improvements in St. Louis County, according to a U.S. Department of Transportation press release. Workers will reconstruct Rice Lake Road, Martin Road, and West Calvary Road, add turn lanes, convert intersections to roundabouts, and construct 5.31 miles of paved trails.
County puts wheels in motion for disaster aid
REGIONAL- The St. Louis County Board held an emergency meeting in Virginia this past Thursday to approve a local emergency declaration in the wake of Tuesday’s torrential rain and subsequent flooding. The declaration will open the door to state and federal financial assistance to pay for repairs to area infrastructure, including hundreds of roads that experienced damage from the June 18 storm, which dropped anywhere from three-to-nine inches of rain across the region.

REGIONAL— While last week’s storm poured immense amounts of rain all across the Arrowhead, some areas received much more than others. Tucked within a broad swath of generally two-to-four inches of rain, were narrow bands that received significantly more, in some cases as much as eight to nine inches, and those areas typically experienced the most significant damage as a result.
