St. Lucie County Sheriff's officials are warning residents about a scam involving phony deputies.

Scammers are calling people, claiming to be with the Sheriff's Office and that the person has an outstanding warrant.

The caller says that they will be arrested if payment is not made through Bitcoin or gift cards.

The Sheriff's Office says law enforcement will never call you to request payments. If there is a warrant for your arrest, they will come and handcuff you.

Any information about this scam can be submitted through Treasure Coast CrimeStoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS.
