Saints sweep Fairmont and new Ulm as final week of the regular season arrives

The St. Peter Saints played matches Monday and Tuesday of this week, facing Fairmont at home Monday night before traveling to New Ulm Tuesday. Neither team posed a significant threat to the Saints who earned 3-0 sweeps to improve to 17-8 on the season.

St. Peter opened Monday’s match with a completely dominant 15-1 run that set the tone for the night and the team wasted no time securing the 25-6 victory. The second and third sets were much tighter as the Saints experimented with several different combinations of players and formations, but the final result was never in doubt on the way to the 3-0 (25-6, 25-22, 25-22) sweep.

When the Saints traveled to New Ulm Tuesday, there was no amount of room given for the Eagles to breathe as St. Peter cruised to another 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-14) sweep. With the pair of victories in hand, the Saints will prepare for the final two matches of the season.

First, St. Peter travels to Blue Earth Area H.S. Thursday, Oct, 10, to face the Buccaneers before returning home to close the regular season against the Mankato East Cougars Monday, Oct. 14. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m.
