The MLB Has A Huge Dilemma On Their Hands

Pirates fans in Pittsburgh think they have it bad with owner Bob Nutting and they do. The team released Rowdy Tellez four plate appearances short of a $200,000 contract bonus. That’s just the way they operate. The shady business that will repel free agents for years to come. But they aren’t the only team with a horrendous owner.

What John Fisher is doing to the people of Oakland is downright disgusting. Oakland has had a bad enough time when it comes to sports with the Raiders going to Las Vegas and the Warriors moving too. At least the Warriors are still just right across the bridge, but they aren’t Oakland anymore. It’s a terrible situation all around and the MLB should be ashamed.

    Think About The Kids

One of the best parts of a young man’s life is getting to go to the ballpark with his dad to catch a baseball game. Remember that? Being excited to go into the city. Bring your glove just in case a ball happens to get hit by you. Get some nachos or hotdogs or whatever your ballpark food preference is. All that has now been ripped from a community in Oakland, California by some money-hungry billionaires.

What’s the fascination with moving to Las Vegas anyway? They don’t even have a stadium built yet and don’t even have the plans for one quite yet. The Athletics will play in Sacramento until all that gets sorted out. Why not at least stay in Oakland for the fans until Vegas is ready? Because the fans hate John Fisher, rightfully so. He knows it and hates them back just as much.

    MLB’s Final Days In Oakland

Fisher was not happy with the attendance numbers in Oakland over the past few seasons, but it’s his fault. The fans were doing something that Pirates fans should consider, boycotting a front office that won’t put a good product on the field. It’s a reasonable thing for Athletics fans to do.

The scene for the final home game in Oakland was a tear-jerker. On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the Athletics closed their chapter in Oakland with a 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers in front of a sold-out crowd. It felt like a funeral of the game and in a way it was for the city.

Fans asked field workers to fill empty water bottles with some of the dirt from the field. Many radical signs were flying.

The Athletics faithful made sure their voice was heard on that night. The players could feel it too. They all soaked in the emotional scene after fireballer Mason Miller closed the game out on a ground ball to shortstop. It was the last taste of baseball that the city of Oakland would get to enjoy until who knows when.

Remember when the Athletics sent Esteury Ruiz down to the minors over a bracelet he wore? That bracelet was distributed by The Last Dive Bar, a group heavily involved in the boycott of the Athletics management. So in response, the team sent one of its better players down to the minors for schmoozing with the enemy of John Fisher and company. That’s how these poverty franchises operate and it’s terrible when it comes down to affecting fans in this way.

How many people grew up around the Oakland Coliseum and were hoping their kids got the same experience they did? What are they supposed to do now? Convert to Giants fans?

They’d have a better product to buy into and not that lame stuff that Fisher and the Athletics are doing. Imagine telling your kid who wants to be like Mason Miller when he grows up that he won’t get to see him play live ever again. Heartbreaking stuff.

When Will The MLB Step In?

The MLB needs to step in and do something against these billionaire owners. Fisher in Oakland and Bob Nutting in Pittsburgh are the first two that come to mind. They have no interest in putting a winning baseball team on the field but are more interested in filling their pockets.

Newsflash to those guys: winning baseball makes money. Playoff runs make money. Stop being stingy and invest in your damn team. Don’t do the stuff that Fisher is doing.

At what point does MLB commissioner Rob Manfred step in and do something? Never, because he’s just as money-hungry. When he saw a team with the potential to relocate to Vegas, his eyes lit up with dollar signs like a Looney Tunes cartoon.

Hopefully, they’re happy. They get to keep stacking their money while the people of Oakland suffer. Everyone involved in this malpractice should be ashamed of themselves. The fans are the ones that pay your salary and this is how you repay them? Despicable stuff.

I love baseball, but MLB is absurd. There has to be a salary cap for instituted to level the field and there has to be revenue sharing of television money. This is not 30 different businesses, it’s one business with 30 branches. The NFL knows this, and they seem to be doing alright. If the owners can’t see they are better off when everybody is competitive and making money, they are idiots.
