The Florida Gators came close to defeating then eight-ranked Tennessee on Saturday night, but eventually fell short in overtime. Florida's defense did all they could, but missed opportunities by the offense came back to haunt the Gators.

One of the big stories from Saturday's game was quarterback Graham Mertz's health. The 23-year-old provided fans with an injury update on Monday.

    Mertz Injury Update

Mertz took to X on Monday, telling fans that he suffered a torn ACL on Saturday, and will miss the remainder of the 2024 college football season. The QB added that he will do whatever he can from the sideline to help the team win.

Mertz transferred from Wisconsin to Florida after the 2022 season. He spent four years with the Badgers and played his final two years in The Swamp. The Kansas native completed 73.7% of his passes for 3,694 yards and 26 touchdowns as a Gator.

Lagway Gets The Start For The Gators

With Mertz done for the season, freshman quarterback DJ Lagway will lead the Gators' offense for the remainder of the year. Lagway has thrown for 765 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions through his first six games.

According to 24/7 Sports , Lagway was a five-star recruit and received offers from Boston College, Baylor, Arkansas, and Alabama. Ultimately, he decided to enroll at Florida.

Lagway's first game as a full-time starter is Saturday when the Gators host Kentucky. Florida will have a bye week following the Kentucky game, giving them plenty of time to prepare for the fifth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
