Summers County Launches Text-to-911 Service
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – Summers County’s 911 Center activated text-to-911 service Wednesday morning, becoming the 28th county Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in West Virginia to offer the emergency communication option. The new service is a requirement for meeting Next Generation 911 standards and provides an alternative way to contact emergency services for people with hearing and speech impairments, those who are unable to speak safely, or those who do not understand English. To use the service, people should open a text message window, type 911 in the “to” field, and describe the emergency in the message. The 911 Center will receive the sender’s location and other data. Dispatchers can also send text messages and translate them into 20 languages. For questions or comments about the service, contact Summers County’s 911 Center at 304-466-5613 or through Facebook Messenger. Summers County Performing Arts to begin fall semester
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - Summers County Performing Arts, under the direction of Artistic Director Lisa Ann Colombo, will begin its fall semester on August 26. Ballet, jazz, tap, pointe, piano, voice, actor’s connection, violin, line dancing and ballroom dancing are among the classes offered. The studio, located at 211 Temple Street in historic downtown Hinton, is a professional performing arts studio. Summers County Performing Arts is an approved education service provider for the Hope Scholarship. Man arrested after allegedly cheating Talcott woman out of almost $5,000
TALCOTT W.Va. (Hinton News) - On July 23, an individual allegedly went to the Summers County Sheriff's Department saying a man, now identified as William Junior Fair II, 48, had cheated her out of $4,966.72. The victim also reportedly stated that Fair was living in a camper parked on her property without permission. The victim stated that in 2021 she had some work done on the property that's in the vicinity of Talcott. The work was done by Bethlehem Farms who helps out senior citizens who can't afford the work. The victim said they only do work on the outside...

Fayette County Pushes Forward with Buc-ee's Project, Tax Incentives and $15M Loan Approved to Boost Memphis-Area Economy
The Fayette County Industrial Development Board has officially greenlit tax incentives for constructing a Buc-ee’s travel center. With the approval of a 20-year tax increment financing, the infrastructure costs amount to $17 million for necessary improvements like roads, water, and sewer systems. Comedy Night at The Ritz Theatre
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) – A night of laughter is coming to Hinton as the Ritz Theatre hosts a comedy show on August 22. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m. Headlining the event is Seattle-based comedian Andrew Rivers, who has opened for Christopher Titus and is currently on tour with Steve Hofstetter. Rivers has also released several comedy specials, including one on Dry Bar Comedy. Opening for Rivers is Luke Severeid, a Pittsburgh comedian who recently reached the semifinals of the San Francisco & Seattle Comedy International Comedy Competition. Local comedian Chase Jobe will host the evening. Jobe, a Hinton native, has been making a name for himself on the comedy circuit and was a finalist in the Caravan Comedy Contest in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this year.
