Police: Machete-wielding man in Ritzville injures officer during arrest
RITZVILLE - In the early hours of July 20, 2024, a dramatic incident unfolded in Ritzville, resulting in the arrest of a local man on multiple charges. At approximately 3:14 AM, Adams County Sheriff dispatch alerted the on-duty Ritzville police officer to a situation in the 200 block of West Second Street. A male subject, identified as 36-year-old Brian Packer Massy of Ritzville, was reported to be carrying a large knife and running towards three individuals in the area after a verbal exchange.

Umatilla National Forest July 19 fire update
PENDLETON – (News release from Umatilla National Forest) Firefighters continue to actively suppress multiple fires across the Umatilla National Forest. With the high temperatures, dry conditions, and lightning strikes from Wednesday July 17, fire officials continue to monitor for new ignitions. Fire suppression coordination and management continues with help from the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Oregon Department of Forestry, and Washington Department of Natural Resources along with county and district resources.
Umatilla School District offers free food for kids
UMATILLA, Ore. - Kids eat for free during the Umatilla School District’s summer feeding program. The program is available Monday through Friday until Aug. 8. The school district will be serving lunch at four different locations this summer for children between the ages one and 18 years old. Adults with their children can get lunch for $3. All meals must be eaten at the event.
