On one night, two places in the Northeast get hit with 1-in-1,000 year rainfall
In two places on the same night, the storm that deluged the Northeast this weekend dumped rain at or near rates that should be expected only once in a thousand years. The storm killed at least three people and caused widespread flooding. It dropped about 10 inches of rain over 12 hours on Sunday in parts of Connecticut including Oxford and Southbury. About 35 miles away, about 6.7 inches of rain fell in three hours on Sunday night in Stony Brook, New York. Both are measures that would have roughly a 0.1% chance of happening in a year, according to federal rainfall probability data.

NCPD: Three Brooklyn Residents Bring Their Kids Along for Shoplifting Spree at Roosevelt Field Mall
Third Squad Detectives report the arrests of three (3) Brooklyn individuals for a Grand Larceny that occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 6:50 pm in East Garden City. According to detectives, three (3) subjects entered Macys located at 630 Old Country Road and proceeded to conceal 67 pieces of merchandise inside bags and a stroller. Amparo Tipanta Tipantuna, 43, of 45 Fane Court, had her two (2) juvenile children (ages 13,10) with her. Brayan Callatasig Guanotasig, 21, and Katherine Pila Tipantuna, 25, both of 45 Fane Court, had their juvenile child, 3, with them. All of the juveniles were active participants in concealing the merchandise. The three (3) subjects exited the store without making a payment for the merchandise and were stopped by store security. The subjects were arrested without incident. The juveniles were released to a relative.

Charges dropped against drug dealer; state trooper under investigation
POUGHKEEPSIE – A convicted felon who was originally charged with seven felony counts related to drug dealing in Poughkeepsie had five charges dropped by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office before his recent trial. Dutchess DA Anthony Parisi dropped the charges against Marc Coleman, 36, of Poughkeepsie, after learning that the state police investigator involved in Coleman’s case is under federal investigation.
