Investigation Into Fatal Fire on Robertson Road
Photo Courtesy of Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office. “On Thursday, July 4, 2024, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Burbank-Paradise Fire Department and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a person on fire inside a residence in 1900 block of Robertson Road in Modesto. When the fire department arrived on scene, they located a female victim with major burns over 80% of her body. The victim was transported to a Modesto hospital by ambulance and later flown to a burn center in Sacramento. The victim later died from her injuries on Saturday, July 6. The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Andrea Benning of Modesto.

Irrigation District files anti-SLAPP suit against Board Member
Last May, Modesto Irrigation District (MID) Board Member Janice Keating filed a suit against the district and fellow board member Robert Frobose alleging gender harassment. The suit claims, among other things, that Frobose sought to intimidate Keating about her opposition to rehiring attorney Ronda Lucas to assist General Counsel Wes Milliband with the district’s legal issues. Lucas had prevailed in a gender harassment suit against the district in 2019, after what she considered a wrongful termination in November of 2018.
