    Area towns receive help with water projects

    Several area towns will receive drinking water and wastewater funding after projects were approved in Tuesday’s State Water Infrastructure Authority Meeting in Raleigh.

    The announcement of $235 million in drinking water and wastewater infrastructure funding and stormwater grants was made by Gov. Roy Cooper on Wednesday.

    All together, 79 projects in 30 counties, including 51 construction projects were approved.

    North Carolina’s State Water Infrastructure Authority approved funding assistance in the form of loans and/or grants for the following local applications:

    • Town of Sharpsburg, $3,215,000 for wastewater system improvements from the Clean Water State Reserve Fund.

    • Town of Stantonsburg, $738,866 for sewer collection System Phase II Rehabilitation from the Clean Water State Reserve Fund.

    • Town of Sharpsburg, $1.1 million for wastewater system improvements pump station & waste water collection system improvements for Edgecombe, Nash and Wilson counties from the Clean Water State Reserve Fund.

    On Feb. 20, the North Carolina State Water Infrastructure Authority, approved funding assistance (loans and/or grants) for the following applications:

    • Town of Saratoga, $150,000 for sanitary sewer asset inventory and assessment and another $150,000 for water system asset inventory and assessment.

    Also Tuesday, the State Water Infrastructure Authority approved funding assistance for the following applications in Nash County:

    • Town of Nashville, $984,046 for wastewater, Regency Estates sewer improvements and also $595,830 for wastewater, Essex Road.

    • Town of Spring Hope, $1,766,080 for drinking water, elevated water tank replacement and also $1,194,800 for wastewater, 2023 wastewater treatment plant improvements.

    The towns will be notified of their funding awards by a letter of intent to fund by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Water Infrastructure.
