AP team reveals harms of forced sedation during police encounters
Amid growing attention to the use of deadly force by police, the danger of administering sedatives to restrain people in police custody has largely gone unrecognized. Associated Press journalists Ryan Foley, a reporter based in Iowa City, Iowa, and medical writer Carla Johnson, along with AP video journalist Shelby Lum, broke ground by documenting how the practice of giving sedatives to people detained by police has proliferated in the last 15 years.

Crews continue working to clear trees in Davenport after tornado
City crews in Davenport and Bettendorf have been working non-stop to clear fallen trees, power lines, and debris after Monday night’s tornado. Scott County Emergency Management Deputy Director Jim Hawkes says the EF-1 tornado, which was on the ground for eight miles, left a tangle in its wake. “There’s a lot of tree damage, a lot of powerline damage. The cities are dealing a lot with trees that are tangled up in powerlines and they’ve been unable to clean them up,” he says. As of this morning, power has been restored to most of the area.
Two vehicle accident reported in Butler County from the weekend
Saturday about 10am the Iowa State Patrol was called out on the report of a two vehicle accident northwest of Shell Rock along Highway 3 near Vintage Lane. 56-year-old Sonia High of Shell Rock was traveling westbound on Highway 3 driving a 2012 GMC Acadia when for some reason she crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound semi-truck and trailer combination driven by 62-year-old Michael Toussaint of Sumner head on.

IUC Schedules Public Hearing On Black Hills Energy’s Request For Natural Gas Rate Increases
The Iowa Utilities Commission (IUC) has scheduled a public hearing for later this year to discuss Black Hills Energy’s proposed natural gas rate increase. The hearing will be held in the IUC’s Hearing Room on Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at 1375 E. Court Ave. in Des Moines. Black Hills Energy filed an application on May 1 seeking approval to revise its rates to increase its annual revenues. This request is being reviewed as required by state law and the IUC’s administrative rules. The hearing will include the presentation of evidence and cross-examination of witnesses. Public comments can be submitted online, via email to customer@iuc.iowa.gov, or by mail using the address included below.
