Former Lady Vols’ WNBA results for July 1
Two former Lady Vols competed in the WNBA on Monday. Seattle defeated Dallas, 95-71, at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Jordan Horston started at guard for the Storm. She recorded eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes. Horston converted 4-of-8 field goal attempts. Mercedes Russell totaled seven points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal for Seattle in 19 minutes. She converted 3-of-6 field goal attempts and 1-of-1 free throw attempts. Horston played for Tennessee from 2019-23 under head coaches Holly Warlick and Kellie Harper. Horston was a first-round selection (No. 9 overall) by the Storm in the 2023 WNBA draft. Russell played for the Lady Vols from 2013-18 under Warlick. At Tennessee, she is only one of three players to record at least 40 career double-doubles, joining Candace Parker and Chamique Holdsclaw. Russell was a second-round selection (No. 22 overall) by New York in the 2018 WNBA draft.
25 high school students participate in Kent Police Teen Academy
Twenty-five high school students from Kent participated in the three-day Kent Police Department Teen Academy. They learned about different divisions in the department including detectives, traffic, special operations, SWAT and the Civil Disturbance Unit, according to a Kent Police social media post.
