New Hanover DA's Office: Juvenile death in Carolina Beach result of gunshot wound

The death of a juvenile victim in Carolina Beach was caused by a gunshot wound.

On Saturday, Aug. 10, The Carolina Beach Police Department and EMS were called at 6:19 p.m. to Waterview Condos, 305 S. Lake Park Blvd., in reference to a medical call.

Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile victim, who was immediately transported to Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Shortly after arrival, the victim died, according to a news release from the Carolina Beach police, who added the incident was isolated and there's no ongoing threat to the public.

On Tuesday, the New Hanover County District Attorney's Office confirmed that the child succumbed to a gunshot wound and that the firearm was recovered at the scene.

With the incident still under investigation, the District Attorney's Office said they are unable to provide further comment.

Carolina Beach police said no further information will be released at this time.
