The Waffle House location in downtown Wilmington has closed, according to a note posted on the door at 255 N. Front St. The sign said that they announced with great sadness that the location is closed permanently.

“It has been a great pleasure to serve all of you,” the note said.

Also posted on the restaurant was a city of Wilmington public notice that said the property is under nonresidential structure code violation. There’s also an accompanying letter from the city.

The downtown location opened in 2018 and was one of eight in New Hanover and Brunswick counties. The Georgia-based chain has more than 1,900 locations, mostly across the Southern United States. More than 180 of those locations are in North Carolina, according to the company.
