Boat Point Drive targeted for overhaul
POINT PLEASANT — Boat Point Drive, which has been hit with significant flooding and damage since Superstorm Sandy, will be substantially renovated with new flooding and damage mitigation measures thanks to a $199,000 grant from federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). New inlets, manholes and tide flex valves as well as raising of the road at a location approximately 150 feet from the intersection of Bay Isle Drive on Boat Point Drive in the Bay Head Shores neighborhood.
Bay Head Summer Camp in full swing
BAY HEAD — While school may be out, laughs and cheers can still be heard over at Bay Head School, due to the Bay Head Summer Camp launching in full swing. Having started on July 1, the camp has open enrollment until it ends on Aug. 8. Camp takes place every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.
Scow Ditch bulkhead and boardwalk targeted for redo
BAY HEAD — Scow Ditch, the long, narrow waterway that connects the Barnegat Bay to Twilight Lake, will see a significant renovation done to both the bulkhead and the boardwalk area. Located immediately south of Bridge Avenue, alongside Scow Ditch, are two existing timber bulkhead and boardwalk structures, both of which are deteriorating and in need of replacement.
Suspect arrested in burglary of three businesses
BRICK TOWNSHIP — A suspect has been arrested following a string of burglaries at businesses in Ocean and Monmouth counties. Todd M. Lansing, 46, of Brick Township, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted burglary and one count of burglary to three commercial businesses in Brick Township. He also was charged with three counts of criminal mischief, two counts of possession of burglary tools and one count of theft, on July 2, Brick Township Chief of Police David Forrester announced.
Borough appoints Colliers to help secure grant funding
LAVALLETTE — The Lavallette council Monday unanimously approved a resolution appointing engineering firm Colliers Engineering & Design as grant and funding specialists to aid the borough in securing grant money. Colliers was hired to research both federal, state and county level grant opportunities for the borough of Lavallette; a task for which there is no official position in the borough’s municipal offices.
Paddling over 1,000 miles every summer
BAY HEAD — The summer season is a plentiful time for paddleboarders in the area on the many waterways, but none travel as far or are on the water as much as resident Jean Mitchell. In the summers, Mitchell calls her sailboat her home, living on it nearly full-time over at Sanzari Marina in Bay Head.
Wall Knights Family Foundation annual family outing set for next month
WALL TOWNSHIP — The Wall Knights Family Foundation (WKFF) will hit the links once again this year for its annual family outing to fundraise for the township’s youth and high school athletics programs. The outing will take place Monday, Aug. 12, starting at 10 a.m. at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club, located at 20 Shore Oaks Drive, Farmingdale, and will consist of nearly nine hours of activities such as a round of golf, a BBQ, swimming, pickleball and tennis, cocktail hour and a dinner with a silent auction.
Glimmer of Hope returning to light up Twilight Lake
BAY HEAD — The shores and waters of Twilight Lake will light up once again this August as the ninth annual Glimmer of Hope returns to Bay Head. Run by the Bay Head Business Association, the event invites the whole community out on Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. with lanterns in hand as residents “join your community for an inspiring and memorable night with your own reflective hope, wish or prayer,” according to the event’s flier.
Beach library, shade tree commission host pollinator garden talk
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — Point Beach residents gathered in the meeting room of the “Little Red Library” on Tuesday morning to learn how to make their yards more pollinator-friendly from fellow resident and gardener Cathy Kniffin. Kniffin began the program, called “Pollinators and the Plants that Support Them,” by talking about the prehistoric co-evolution of plants and their main pollinators.
Ray’s Cafe honored for generosity to borough
SEA GIRT — Ray Litzinger, owner of Ray’s Cafe at 523 Washington Blvd., was honored in a proclamation by the mayor and borough council at the Wednesday, July 10, meeting, in recognition of the commitment, dedication and support he and his business provide to the community. Mayor Donald Fetzer read, “It is with great honor and admiration that we recognize individuals whose dedication and commitment continue immeasurably to the vibrant spirit and cohesion of our community…(the proclamation) serves as special recognition to Ray Litzinger, owner and operator of Ray’s Cafe since 1993.”
Point Beach teen FAA-certified as private pilot
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — A Point Pleasant Beach teenager is flying high after receiving his Private Pilot Certification, continuing what has become a family tradition of aviation. Max Esposito, 16, is now certified as a private pilot with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He is currently rated to fly a glider, but said he is anticipating diving into his powered-aircraft rating next.

BAY HEAD — Bay Head has seen much reconstruction ever since Superstorm Sandy barreled through the town in 2012, with many old and historic homes either being destroyed due to the storm, or torn down in favor of a larger, more modern-looking home. However, some residents, such as Mark and Janice Zarrilli, opted to keep the historic look of their home’s exterior instead of a complete tear-down.
Brielle man arraigned for his role in $3.4 million insider trading scheme
NEWARK, NJ. – A former partner at a New Jersey broker-dealer firm was arraigned on charges of engaging in an insider trading scheme that netted millions of dollars in illegal trading profits, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced on Thursday, July 18. Christopher Matthaei, 44, of Brielle, was arraigned before U.S.
Lavallette hosts annual Memorial Lifeguard Tournament
LAVALLETTE — For two evenings this week, crowds packed New Brunswick Avenue beach as they spectated Lavallette Beach Patrol’s annual Lavallette Memorial Lifeguard Tournament. Despite a lingering heat wave, the two-night event drew hundreds to the hot beach, where members of various area beach patrols showed off their teamwork and lifesaving skills in both the women’s tournament on Monday and the men’s/open tournament on Tuesday.
Council introduces $2.7 million bond ordinance
POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Beach council introduced an ordinance appropriating more than $2.7 million — $2.2 million of which to be raised through bonds — for various capital improvements at its Tuesday, July 16 meeting. Some of the largest appropriations in the $2,748,300 bond ordinance include the “reconstruction of Carter Avenue, south Baltimore Avenue and a portion of New Jersey Avenue” at about $625,000 as well as $257,200 for “improvements to public properties, including…renovations of welcome signs, borough hall improvements, bandshell improvements and Liberty Lane drainage improvements.”
Boro receives $752,000 grant for new sidewalks
POINT PLEASANT — A flurry of new sidewalks, courtesy of a $752,000 grant from Safe Routes to School (SRTS), are coming to the Ocean Road Elementary School area. Currently, there are several sidewalks already in the area, most immediately around the school, located at 1210 Benedict St. However, this project aims to connect these sidewalks that are incomplete or disjointed and install several long strips so roads are safer to travel on.

POINT PLEASANT – It’s a jungle out there, or more specifically at the Point Pleasant Borough Library, as Eyes of the Wild came to show off a pack of animals. Eyes Of The Wild is an exotic-animal rescue that provides forever homes to over 175 animals and 60 different species from throughout the animal kingdom.
Jack McDonald is new senior pastor at Grace Bible Church
WALL TOWNSHIP — Inside the sacred doors of Grace Bible Church (GBC), the clergy have named a new senior pastor to fill recently retired Randy Smith’s role. “It’s been a bit of a transition, I used to preach every week on Wednesdays for youth students,” newly-appointed Senior Pastor Jack McDonald said.
Boro plans massive pedestrian, cyclist safety initiative
POINT PLEASANT — Safer roads for both pedestrians and cyclists are coming to Point Pleasant, as the mayor and council revealed a massive plan to add sidewalks, enhance pedestrian safety and make roads safer for all. A massive $5,000,000 plan was unveiled at the borough council meeting on July 15, with all funds supplied by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), according to Borough Administrator Frank Pannucci.
National Night Out set for Aug. 6
SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Joseph E. Robertson Park will once again be home to National Night Out this year, welcoming residents of Spring Lake Heights to socialize with the police department and partake in activities for the whole family. The annual celebration encourages police forces around the country to connect with the people they are tasked with protecting and serving.
