WALL TOWNSHIP — With a little help from its friends at InfoAge History and Science Museums, the Monmouth County Fire Museum (MCFM) showed off a sea of vintage firetrucks, military vehicles and cars this past Saturday, Aug. 24.

Various organizations and car crazies from all over came to behold a sight of 20th-century trucks — both firetrucks and military-grade — as well as bright, shiny personally-owned cars that dated back to the earliest days of automobiles.

The show took place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., surrounding the buildings of MCFM, as well as the Military Technology Museum, Computer Deconstruction Laboratory and Military Radar Evolution building.

Firetrucks from different departments, some now dissolved, were available for visitors to peruse, climb and even test the bells and whistles; Glendola, Sea Girt, East Keansburg, Wall Fire Company 1, West Belmar, Deal, Forest Fire Service, Morganville, Herbertsville, Notre Dame Fire Department, West Long Branch, Keyport, Middletown and Oceanic Hook and Ladder (Rumson).

“We formed in 2022 with the mission of preserving and displaying the area’s fire history for everyone and for future generations,” said William Newberry, chairman of MCFM and fire marshal of Wall Township, where InfoAge is located. “And we have a lot of artifacts.”

MCFM is using the show’s fundraising—a $12 admission fee for ages 13 and up, and $8 for ages four through 12—to refurbish the building that once housed the site’s fire department when InfoAge was a U.S. Army base, Camp Evans, according to Newberry. Hundreds of people walked the museums’ grounds during the show. MCFM also had a 50/50 raffle and refreshments, such as hot dogs and hamburgers, for visitors.

“This is our second show, and everything we do is driven off of donations,” he said. “All of these cars here, we had about 95 last year, and they’ll keep rolling in.”
