POINT PLEASANT — Police officers of the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department responded to a false alarm of a “violent crime” earlier this morning.

At approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, officers from the Point Pleasant Police Department responded to a residence located on the 200 block of Jaehnel Parkway following a report of a violent crime occurring inside the home.

In response to the initial report, which suggested an immediate threat to life and safety, the police department implemented precautionary safety measures. These included blocking off traffic in the vicinity of the residence and ensuring the safety of neighboring residents. A substantial police presence was established in the area to manage the situation.

According to Captain Christopher Leonhardt, after a thorough investigation it was determined that the report was a false alarm.

“The call received was identified as a ‘swatting’ incident — an act of making a false report to prompt a significant police response. There was no evidence of any emergency or criminal activity at the residence,” according to the captain.

The Point Pleasant Police Department would like to remind the public that swatting is a serious crime that endangers both residents and first responders.

“We are actively working to identify the individual(s) responsible for making this false report and
will pursue appropriate legal action. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the community during this incident and want to assure residents that the safety and security of our town remain our top priority,” said Captain Leonhardt.
