LAVALLETTE — The Upper Shores Branch of Ocean County Library will host an author visit next month, presented by author and Vietnam War veteran Robin Bartlett.

Bartlett will present his recollections and stories from serving in the Vietnam War for Ocean County Library’s “Boots on the Ground: A Veterans Day Author Visit” on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

“Despite a long family military tradition, Robin Bartlett had other ideas,” the library said. “But at the height of the Vietnam conflict in 1968, he volunteered — a decision that altered his life and his viewpoint.”

Bartlett recounts the conflict in his memoir, “Vietnam Combat: Firefights and Writing History,” available at Ocean County Library. After the program, Bartlett will sign copies, which will be available for purchase.

“A Distinguished Military Graduate through ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) in college, Robin volunteered for infantry, airborne and Ranger service. By age 22, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, leading 1st Platoon, A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile),” stated the library in a press release. “Robin led more than 60 air assaults and search-and-destroy missions before turning 23.”

Currently, Bartlett is president of the New York-New Jersey chapter of the 1st Cavalry Division Association, and is also a member of the 82nd Airborne Division Association. Bartlett received a master’s degree in media from Pace University and is the author of several business publications.

The Ocean County Library’s Upper Shores Branch is at 112 Jersey City Ave. Guests can register at tinyurl.com/OclUPVet to attend this free program. For more information, call 732-793-3996 or visit theoceancountylibrary.org/events.
