Devin died in 2020 after he took a fentanyl-laced pill he purchased over messaging app Snapchat, thinking it was Percocet. The 19-year-old was suffering from migraines and was unable to get access to doctor's appointments at the height of the pandemic.
Over two dozen arrested in July 4th disturbances in Minneapolis, but no gun violence
(Minneapolis, MN) -- Minneapolis police say they arrested more than two dozen people early Friday morning when groups of young adults shot fireworks at police officers, civilians and their vehicles in the Dinkytown neighborhood near the U-of-M's East Bank campus. But there was no gun violence, compared to four shootings on July 4th last year and seven on Boom Island the year before. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara says most of those arrested will be charged with felony rioting but those who deliberately aimed fireworks at others will face felony assault charges. Some of those arrested had out-of-state licenses from Kansas, Massachusetts and Maine, and authorities blame social media "pop-up" invitations encouraging people to come to Minneapolis and cause trouble.
