A Lowndes County native recently presented at Mississippi State University’s (MSU) Undergraduate Research Symposium and brought home honors for his efforts.

Trevor Haney of Hope Hull is a Lowndes Academy graduate attending MSU. During the spring semester, Haney presented “Gastrointestinal Parasite Reinfection in Dewormed Beef Steers Over a 90-d Grazing Period” in the Biological and Life Sciences/Poster category and won third place.

The event allowed students like Haney to showcase their research and creative activity bi-annually through poster and oral presentations. This year, the symposium hosted the highest number of student-presenters and attendees, featuring more than 270 projects evaluated by faculty, graduate students and staff.

The university’s Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Discovery hosted the event in collaboration with the Shackouts Honor College and other sponsors. Roughly 90 faculty members support students participating by commenting on projects and judging special area competitions.

Projects were divided into eight categories: arts, music and design, biological and life sciences, education, engineering, humanities, physical sciences and social sciences. For more information, visit www.urcd.msstate.edu .

Haney was also named recently to the university’s president’s list for maintaining a 3.80 or higher grade point average (GPA).
