An Esther School to open in Seneca
A Florida-based school for children with special needs is coming to Seneca, according to one of its founders, Dr. Esther Berry. She’s in Seneca conducting interviews and meeting with parents of special needs children. Berry tells 101.7/WGOG NEWS arrangements have been made to rent space in the Blue Ridge Community Center for enough classrooms to accommodate up to 150 children in a school calendar year to start in August. According to its website, with nine campuses, mostly in Florida, Esther’s School operates as a private school that offers a Christian perspective. Among the types of special needs children they welcome are those with autism, Down’s syndrome, ADHD, and children who, as she put it, simply don’t fit in public school classrooms.

CLEMSON — Left-handed pitcher Tristan Smith from Clemson baseball was selected 150th overall by the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB draft on Monday. Smith, who attended Boiling Springs High School in South Carolina, was the fourth player selected Monday from the Tigers. The 150th pick has a slot value of $448,700.

With 498 receiving yards, tight end Jake Briningstool was Clemson’s third-leading receiver and finished third among ACC TEs in receiving yards. At 6-foot-6, he is a great red zone threat and led Clemson with five receiving TDs. His two best games came in losses to Miami and NC State, where he had five catches for 126 yards and two TDs and eight for 93 yards, respectively. His next-best game came in the Gator Bowl win over Kentucky, posting nine catches for 91 yards.

John Hamrick’s competitors have probably wondered how it came to be that he got a foot in the door when it came to being the preferred property seller for a Duke Power subsidiary that managed lakeshore properties the electric power utility didn’t need for its Oconee Nuclear Station. It had a lot to do when a replacement Crescent and Land Timber office worker opened a closet door. What happened next is something that Hamrick revealed last week in an interview about his relationship with Crescent Land and Timber between 1989 and 2010. And what followed were lot sales and new subdivisions such as the Summit and East Shores, among many other subdivisions that took shape on the Lake Keowee shoreline.
